Healthy cells have generally been protected from free radical oxidation by antioxidants that simply ward off oxygen attacks. Often sick or damaged cells have little to not have antioxidant protection and can be quickly be destroyed when we flood our bodies with oxygen. Plentiful sources of astaxanthin are found in krill, small fish, and algae, with some animals, like Red Salmon, Mutton Birds and the Blue Whale consuming and concentrating the astaxanthin in their muscles, to provide them with a high level of endurance to help with their migration and return to their spawning grounds.
